Fantasy FOOSBALL Week 1 Matchups
Ahh… here we go again, Week 1 of Fantasy FOOSBALL, 2010 edition. Does anyone know why FOOSBALL is in all caps? Is this an acronym of some sort? Also, isn’t foosball more like soccer than football? Whose idea was it to call the league Fantasy FOOSBALL? We may need to bring in a Roger Goodell here… But without any further delay, Week 1 of Fantasy FOOSBALL’s matchup previews!
Team Infamy vs. Kansas City Chieves
Team Infamy looks to bounce back from last year’s dismal performance with an opening week against last year’s runner-up. In Week 1, anything can happen – last year’s heroes can be this year’s trash, offseason rust can slow down Pro Bowlers. It is impossible to predict how things may wrap up this week.
Regardless, it’s clear that Infamy is much stronger this year than in past years, with one of the top receiving corps in the league. His running backs leave much to be desired. His quarterback is also a huge question mark. Those questions begin to be answered this week. But it will be a tough lesson, going against the likes of Chris Johnson. But the Chiefopotamuses are not without questions of their own. Will Forte regain his rookie season form? Can Britt step up this year – and will VY be able to get him the ball? Will C.J. Spiller get to make the most of his very limited playing time behind Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson?
The Chieves will need Chris Johnson to do what he does best in order to pull out of this one with a victory. And in the past, I’ve learned that Johnson hardly disappoints.
Prediction: Kansas City Chieves
Team Fenix vs. Galileo Humpkins
Last year, Team Fenix finished the season with the second best record in the league, only to falter in the second round of the playoffs by a slim margin. This year, the team looks to bounce back behind the strong quarterback play of Aaron Rodgers and elite wideout Reggie Wayne. He looks to open the season with a strong statement against a team that missed the playoffs last year and finished the regular season under .500. This year, Galileo Humpkins has a new look team, starring elite receivers Andre Johnson and Greg Jennings and up and coming running backs Shonn Greene and Jahvid Best.
In order to win this one, Fenix will need a superhuman game from Rodgers and a solid contribution from his supporting cast. Still, this one does not look easy for Fenix and the talent on the other side is plenty. Humpkins can bounce back from a terrible last season this year, but questions need to be addressed. Will Greene break off enough runs to justify the load given to him? Will Best be able to win a lion’s share of the carries from Kevin Jones? Will Steve Smith finally get some passes to catch from his QB? The answers to these questions decide how far Humpkins will get this year.
Prediction: Galileo Humpkins
Daft Attack vs. Team come git some
After sneaking into the playoffs last season despite a dismal regular season record, Daft Attack was quickly knocked out of the playoffs. Another possibly improved team looks to prove themselves against expansion team Team come git some. Two very strong teams go head to head this week and this week may come down to receiver play. Both teams boast one of the better combos of #1 and #2 running backs in the league and both feature high powered QBs. The receiving corps is where the gap comes, and with Fitzgerald and Boldin teaming up once again for Daft Attack, the matchup may be too much for come git some to handle.
Prediction: Daft Attack
Team Hiren vs. Team Vora
Team Vora looks to bounce back after a disappointing showing in last year’s playoffs with a roster of players to be reckoned with. An obviously very strong team featuring Adrian Peterson and young stars Mike Wallace, Miles Austin, and MSW comes head to head against another expansion team in Team Hiren. Hiren has a strong cast lead by superstar Drew Brees, someone you can never count out. Still, I see Vora bouncing back this season and making a strong playoff push – which begins with a strong statement in Week 1.
Prediction: Team Vora
Team GMEN Champs vs. Team DECAL
After a tough loss in the second round of the playoffs, GMEN Champs look to regain their form with a strong team. The GMEN look to make short work of Team DECAL, who need to find an answer to their problems at receiver, with Santonio Holmes being suspended for the first four weeks of the season. An otherwise strong team, DECAL and Champs will have an excellent matchup.
GMEN need their superstar running back in MJD at full health and for Megatron to step up his game. Unless they get strong games from these stars, the GMEN are in trouble for Week 1.
Prediction: Team DECAL
Gimme That Trophy (AGAIN) vs. Team liu
Team liu shakes up the draft board early by drafting Ray Rice, the Rutgers product, second in this year’s draft over Adrian Peterson. Somehow, he manages a decent roster with late round steals in Tomlinson and Cadillac Williams. If Williams and Tomlinson can stay healthy, this team may surprise everyone. Still, as an expansion team facing off against his former team and reigning champion, liu has his work cut out for him in Week 1. Trophy bring to the table a strong team, making draft steals of Wes Welker, who is returning from knee surgery, and Ronnie Brown, coming off a foot injury. With a strong running back corps and a solid team of receivers, Trophy looks to repeat again. Will the student become the teacher or will the old dog show that he has learned new tricks?
Prediction: Gimme That Trophy (AGAIN)
